Elbow splint

If you've been reading my blog, you'll remember I got some hand numbness a few months ago. It has happened again in the past month but this time the area affected is much more definite... (definitely ulnar this time, forget it if you don't know what I mean, it's rather technical)

The tingling and numbness got worse, and I really can't stand it, coz the keyboard at work is much higher then my arm level, so I need to bend my elbows a lot, you didn't even realise how many times you need to bend your elbow every day until every single time you flex it, my fingers got tingling and numb...

I could not stand it and sought help from an orthopaedic surgeon last week. (Someone I don't know, sigh, from my enneagram test, I hate seeking help from others, that's definitely the case here, I hate this...)

Yesterday I spent 1.5 hrs waiting in his clinic (tho already faster than other patients, but I'm almost late for work... sigh...) and then got a splint to wear during sleep to keep my arm from bending in sleep... (and I got to ask my senior to release me for a short while to go to have the splint customised while at work...)

I tried it for the first time this afternoon, I woke up with my shoulders and back aching... sigh...

Enneagram

I had done an enneagram test earlier on the web when theotokos wrote about it on her blog. Tonight, after watching a TV program on enneagram, I tried it again, I'm type 5 again... both times... haha! It's like exactly what I've been writing about in the past few days, I like hiding away!

Precise and Concise

I can't understand why people cannot understand this concept.

When I have nothing to say, but need to keep on talking, yeah, then maybe I'll just talk round and round and round the topic... or when I want to avoid the topic...

When I actually have an opinion (apart from an intro), I'll just say it...

Just so frustrated when people spent 15 mins talking about things he/she could explain in 1 min... No idea why they want to do this, everyone's mind wander away long ago before they got to the point... so never got to listen to their point...

Why I like staying at home & not going out

My mom told me repeatedly that when I was very very very young (I'm not sure when, probably before kindergarten), I insisted on going to the market with her even though I was dead tired. And she ended up carrying me and the food back home in the end coz I fell asleep while walking... =P

When I was a kid, I must have really loved going out!

I remember when I was a teenager, I did not go out often because of money. (It's not as bad as portrayed by the news, my family had less than many families getting CSSA, and I could have extra-curricular activities, so just ignore those people on the news saying how poor their children are, not having money to join Scouts/Guides... and I'm WAY off topic here, let me get back on track...)

Now that I have enough money to go out as often as I want, I don't want to go out... haha.

I don't know when the exact turning point is... I have loved reading ever since I was in kindergarten, my mom said I asked her to buy books even before she knew I could read =P And now, reading is still my favourite hobby. (hehe, I just spent my CNY in a reading binge, 7 books!!)

I just know I prefer to stay at home now. Reading, most of the time. If I ever go out, I usually have to make myself leave home. I guess the most important reason for me is in maintaining relationships.

Human relationship is a really fragile thing, when you leave it aside for a while, it'll be lost. That's why even though I don't enjoy going out all that much, I still enjoy an occasional day out especially when I treasure the relationship with some of the people whom I'll be meeting.

It doesn't make it less tedious sometimes, because you still need to talk to people you don't like all that much, and I'm sure I would enjoy reading more, well... I do like meeting with friends whom I like, in order to have that, I guess I need to risk going to some boring gatherings. =P haha!

Why I hate Chinese New Year

When I was a kid, Chinese New Year was the most boring festival of all.

And the hypocrisy... everyone just wishes everyone lots of good things, like a tongue twister competition...

"Oh, Kung Hei Fat Choi, Happy New Year, wish you healthy and get lots of money, and get a baby every year... (pls fill in the blanks) and get whatever you want..."

And then when you want to go out, nothing is open... (it's improved in the recent years, but it doesn't matter to me, coz I like staying at home.)

And so when you actually turn the TV on because you're so bored... You see re-runs of TV shows... interrupted by unimaginative commercials, "Company A wishes everyone fat choi."

You've got so much time, but there's NOTHING for you to kill time with, except maybe kill yourself (just kidding, in case you don't appreciate joking like this during CNY)...

I hated it as a kid, but actually I hate it less as an adult (I still don't like it), coz most of the time I can just stay home... tons of stuff to do, too little time, it's good to have a few days to rest. And the most wonderful thing of all, I no longer need to "bai nin" anymore!!! WOW!

Lucky money "Lai See"

I need to work on the first day of the year of Pig. That afternoon, I was greeted by a workman I had never seen before, and he said "Kung Hei Fat Choi" to me. I have always hated that greeting, it's just too money-minded for me... Anyway, I said "Happy New Year."

Then, he said "Lai See Dou Loi (Give Me Lai See Money)". What?!! I said jokingly, "I'm not married yet, haha!" while I'm fuming inside...

I don't even know you and you dared to ask me for $.

And I guess another thing to learn is that I'm really getting old, people are asking me for "lai see"... I've got to think of some suitable responses for the next time... it's going to happen again... I'm sure... oh...

I really hate Chinese New Year.

Simple Truth by Celeste Prince

Been re-watching Lois & Clark Season 4 during the holidays, I almost forgot this beautiful song until today... dug it out from my old files to share with you all, I've also included the lyrics here...

btw if anyone knows where I can find this song, tell me, I've done some searching one the web, and I can't find it anywhere... =P

Enjoy!

The sky don't fall
when I see your face
all I know is what we have
feels to me like what must be
a state of grace
I wish that I had wings
to take you to the clouds
all I have is what you see right now
That's the simple truth
no fireworks on cue
The simple truth,
is I'm in love with you

That's love...

I found this interesting excerpt on someone doing something they would never have done if they were not in love. A bit late, already past Valentine's Day, but really funny...

If you're interested in reading OR writing, just like me, Books & Writers Community is a nice place to hang out. Of course for fans of Diana Gabaldon, there's this added benefit of meeting Herself there. =)

Further news on the embracing "lovers"

Remember that I wrote about the couple who died in each other's arms 5000 years ago, here's further news...

In a Valentine's Day gift to the country, scientists said they are determined to remove and preserve together the remains of a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, their arms still wrapped around each other in an enduring embrace.

Instead of removing the bones one-by-one for reassembly later, archaeologists plan to scoop up the entire section of earth where the couple was buried, they told Reuters.

......

The discovery generated Internet conspiracy theories with some taking a darker interpretation of the hugging skeletons.

One reader on AOL, said it was absurd to assume "this couple is in eternal bliss."

"Maybe it is eternal hatred that had them locked together in a death grip," wrote another reader.

Other people have called for the couple to be left alone -- something that Italian archaeologists say would leave the remains vulnerable to looters, vandals and even bad weather.

There is also a practical reason, the owner of the land hopes to soon build warehouses on it.

"We say rest in peace -- unless you're dead long enough to be interesting," wrote another reader, Jim Noonan.

10 most romantic books ever

I read a discussion on a list of supposedly most romantic books ever
1. Pride And Prejudice
2. Wuthering Heights
3. The Bronze Horseman
4. Bridget Jones' Diary
5. The Time Traveler's Wife
6. The Notebook
7. Anna Karenina
8. Gone With The Wind
9. Rebecca
10. Cross Stitch

I have only read The Time Traveler's Wife and Cross Stitch (i.e. Outlander , my all time fav series!! this is the name for the UK version). I have also seen some of the other movie/TV adaptations, e.g. Pride and Prejudice, GWTW. Wuthering Heights, I tried reading it in secondary school, cannot finish it even after half a year...

Anyway, I can't imagine why Bridget Jones is one of the most romantic books ever...
However, from the discussion, I realised Bridget Jones is actually a modern adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, and the more I think about it, the more similarities I found. (Of course, I watched the BBC Pride and Prejudice, so Colin Firth was the Mr. Darcy in both of them. haha!)

As for the Time Traveler's Wife, I don't like it all that much either. It's not boring, the idea of the book is quite original, a time traveler that could suddenly go to another time (it's actually a disease), and he met his wife at another time when she was still a kid. And then when she grew up, she fell in love with him and went to find him (but he still doesn't know her yet.) Seems complicated, but actually very easy to read. The idea is novel, but the execution is not exceptional. Later on, I found the story more like horrifying (a bit exaggerated) than romantic, when the guy could not control when and where he was going and started getting injuries... I'm not going to reveal anymore of the story... but I really don't like it all that much...

As for , it is one of my all time favourite movie. If you haven't watched it yet, watch it!

Amys

I don't particularly like this name... I chose this name in Primary 1, when my mom gave me a list of English names to choose from (for school), and I chose the shortest among them... Amy...

I regretted this even in Primary School. I had the experience of being one of the FOUR Amys in one class... Many more in other classes... I don't understand why so many people chose this name.

These other Amys left school for overseas one by one, by the time I graduated from secondary school, there were just one or two Amys left.

I have never got to know another Amy all through my university days and different workplaces... It's like all Amys suddenly disappear, maybe all of them have changed their names...

Until recently.

In this new workplace, there is this very senior person also called Amy. I called her today, and said, "This is Amy." I think she thought I was just saying her name, and then I repeated this, she was like, "Oh, you're Amy X(my last name)"...

And then after leaving work (LATE BECAUSE OF WEBPAE, WANT TO KILL IT!), the operator called me for some problems for the cases tomorrow. And it turned out that they called her first, coz they mistook her for me, haha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What would you choose? Sex or Clothes?

This is an interesting piece of news... also from Reuters... Really true?? Interesting contrast from the discovery mentioned in the previous post...

For most women, the choice between sex and a new wardrobe is simple -- they go for the clothes.

Women on average say they would be willing to give up sex for 15 months for a closet full of new apparel, with 2 percent ready to abstain from sex for three years in exchange for new duds, according to a new survey of about 1,000 women in 10 U.S. cities.

Sixty-one percent of women polled said it would be worse to lose their favorite article of clothing than give up sex for a month.

"Some people say clothes make the man, but the right clothes can even replace him," fashion designer, stylist and TV personality Carson Kressley from the reality TV show "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" said in a statement accompanying the poll.

The study also suggested that clothes often wear better than relationships.

The average woman between 18 and 54 years of age has hung on to her favorite article of clothing for 12 and a half years, a year longer than she's held on to her longest relationship.

Almost three-quarters of respondents, or 70 percent, also said they believed in love at first sight when it came to finding the perfect article of clothing, while only 54 percent of women were as confident in spotting the right man.

Nearly half of the women, or 48 percent, taking part in the survey by consumer products giant Unilever said their favorite article of clothing was more reliable than their man in giving them confidence and making them feel sexy.

Romantic Archaeology

I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was a kid. What is it with the title here, did I go crazy? What on earth is this? Archaeology on the Romantic Period? No! I did not go crazy. No! It's just an archaeological discovery that's extremely romantic.

This piece of news is from Reuters.

Call it the eternal embrace.

Archaeologists in Italy have discovered a couple buried 5,000 to 6,000 years ago, hugging each other.

... "But I've never been so moved because this is the discovery of something special."

Babe Magnet

As I was browsing on the web, I found this list of jobs that are supposed to be "babe magnets"! Babes, do you agree? haha!!!
- Doctors who work with children
- Environmental scientist
- Role in finance
- Journalist
- Company director
- Academic

And this list is for professions attracting men
- Human rights campaigner
- Journalists
- Photographers
- Web designers
- Marketers
- Advertising directors.

I don't know about men, personally speaking from a woman's point of view, what matters is not the job a man got, it's the person... And I really can't understand why paediatricians are considered attractive at all...
